Motivation - The Key To Weight Loss

Motivation is one of the key factors in our daily lives. Most times we donít even think about it, but motivation is the driver behind the willpower we need to succeed at anything. Understanding how motivation works goes a long way to harnessing this powerful force within us.

The marathon is 26 miles long - a formidable challenge even for a trained runner. Yet people like Mary who was grossly overweight for 10 years, or Jon who was a recovering lifetime alcoholic, were able to train for and run this race.

How do so many people with physical disabilities and problems manage to complete this very difficult event? The answer is Motivation! They were able to convince themselves that they could succeed in spite of their problems. And not only that - they were able to keep at it, week after week through the long training program.

This is the power of motivation and you can use this force to lose the weight you want.

If you are not strongly motivated you will have a hard time sticking with your weight loss program - whatever it is.

There are many good weight loss plans out there, and most of them will work. But if your level of motivation is not kept up, the chances are extremely high that you will not be able to maintain your initial weight loss. The answer is to make sure you are doing the right things to keep you on track.

Record Your Goals

Many studies have shown that people who take the time to actually write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them them those who don't. Why not take a few moments and jot them down right now? You can always add to them later...

Track Your Progress

Similarly, if you record your daily nutrition notes, exercise and workout activities you are much more likely to keep up with your weight loss program. You don't have to be too detailed about this - it's more like a daily diary. You can get a wonderful inspirational Fitness log from Personal Logs.com. Group Support

Groups like Weight Watchers have been successful, not because they have the best diet plan in the world but more so because of their regular meetings and coaching sessions. These supportive meetings inspire people to continue  with their weight loss programs, especially if they are getting discouraged with the slow progress.

Self Help

This is an alternative to the group meeting, although it takes more effort on your part initially. The big advantage is that if you can master this technique then you have gained an important level of independence. (You can also apply this to your other life goals.) Some self help sources include:
